Attention to Wind leakage

Essential work was carried out during February 2005 to eliminate as much wind leakage as possible. Most concussion motors were burst or cut off, and the main wind trunk from the blower which is sited in the boiler room below the organ, had become partially detached where it came through the stone floor. Along with other small leaks caused by splits and cracked wind conveyances, it all added up to the organist needing a blanket to keep warm from the drafts!!

The following photographs show the results, and also the reasons for some of the leaks.

On the left the main wind trunks from the blower have been patched up with gaffer tape. The trunks disappears through the ceiling, and at this point the larger trunk has fractured, and is held up in place by a chunk of wood.

On the right the sleeves have been replaced and all joints re-sealed. A definite improvement and now the wind trunks are sound.
